It sits on a rock by the waterside along Langelinie Promenade. Cast in bronze, the statue measures 4.1 feet tall, and it weighs 385 pounds. The image of the mermaid portrayed is based on the tales of Hans Christian Anderson, and it was unveiled in 1913. It is noted as being one of the iconic statuses the world over that is readily associated with a city. Through the years, the statue has been subject to vandalism, which ranges from it having been blasted off its rock to minor acts like dressing it. The statue is protected by copyright until 2029.
